To understand compound words and homophones.

 

Spelling Focus: Recap and revise spellings that you have found challenging this term. Focus on sounds that have alternative spelling patterns in particular.

 

Grammar Focus: Compound words are words that consist of 2 other words, e.g. foot + ball = football; jelly + fish = jellyfish; rain + bow = rainbow. Complete the exercise on compound words.

Homophones are words that sound the same but have different meaning and spellings, e.g. their/there/they’re, your/you’re, I/eye, know/no. Complete the exercise on homophones.

 

Sentence: Write at least 3 example sentences that include a compound word and at least 3 example sentences that include 2 homophones, e.g. They’re playing over thereI have a good eye for a ball.

To explore a country.

 

Children will explore a country in North or Central America. This can be any country of particular interest. They will have the opportunity to create a detailed information page about their nation of choice. In the top right hand corner, they can begin by colouring in an accurate representation of their country’s national flag. In essence, it is a research project which can be done with the support of an Atlas, map and computer. At the foot of the page, there are three lines to include some other amazing facts about their chosen country.
